On Monday, September 8, 2014 at 6:30 PM the USC Society of Trojan Women invited alums to meet up to the kickoff of the 2014-2015 year at the historic USC Widney Alumni House. Attendees learned what STW is all about at our Annual Open House.
The Society of Trojan Women (STW) is a group of alumnae who support and connect with each other, the university, and the Trojan Family. STW women are career-minded and ambitious, leading busy professional and personal lives. Essentially, we represent the quintessential modern, Trojan woman.
Here are a few words from our current President, Julie Paluch -
I am so excited about where the Society of Trojan Women is headed this year. We have a strong mission that focuses on providing valuable programming to Trojan alumnae to encourage both personal and professional growth. Our events also aim to facilitate friendship between the women in the STW community and raise funds for scholarships, so that we can give back to Trojans who are currently enrolled at ‘SC. But what I am most excited about is the culture that we are working to create - a culture in which the STW community supports each woman to chase after her dreams and create the life she wants to live. We want women leaving our events feeling energized to go after what they want in life and to feel connected to other Trojan women who are attempting to do the same. Managing life can be challenging at any age, so STW wants to provide programming and a community that can help ambitious and courageous Trojan women be the best versions of themselves in both their professional and personal lives.
One example of the programming mentioned above is coming up on October 29th from 6 to 9 pm. A STW Signature Event in conjunction with the USC Alumni Association and the USC Career Center, together we are sponsoring a workshop entitled Negotiating for Women. In order for us women to get what we want from life, we can’t be shy about asking for it. Negotiation skills are critical in getting what we want from both our professional and personal lives. We are so excited and grateful to Yasmin Davids for agreeing to conduct this workshop for us, and we are thrilled that USCAA will be hosting a live stream this event (for the first time!) to women in regional clubs throughout the country and around the world. This program helps us take one step toward our vision of STW becoming a reality - STW supports and connects Trojan women lifelong and worldwide.
We stopped a few of our board members to get their reactions and thoughts from our recent open house:
Meredith J., Membership Chair
The Open House was a great opportunity to meet new people and reconnect with old friends. This year sounds like it will be a great one for the Society of Trojan Women and I’m so happy to be a part of it.
Christina W., President-Elect/Social Chair
So excited to see all the new faces at the STW Open House. I hope all of the women have the chance to work a few more of our exciting events into their busy schedule over the course of this year, whether it’s the socials or the business events, STW strives to provide something interesting and valuable for every busy Trojan woman. I’m looking forward to connecting with many more new faces at the October 13 Social at Moreton Fig!
Our Supporter Circles are a great way to get involved with this multi-generational alumnae group as they help fund student scholarships and give a great value especially if you plan on attending a couple events and the 2015 USC Women’s Conference.
